How Cold Drawn Steel Wire Is Made
The steel is passed through a drawing die at room temperature. A gripping device pulls the undrawn coil through the die to increase length, reduce transverse width and form the steel into the desired shape. Multiple passes through the die are required to form the cold drawn wire into the desired shape and properties.
Between each pass through the die, the wire is typically annealed to increase the ductility of the wire and change the properties of the wire. The steel can be annealed before, during or after passing through the die - it all depends on your final specifications.
